DJ, The USSR supported an independence for British India...even in the 19th century the UK and Russia did fight eachother a.o. in Afghanistan, Uyghur-China...After independence Islamic Pakistan did see a lot of US military dictators/influence...
It is only the last decades China-bordering Pakistan (and Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam) in the north China-Pakistan relations did improve. Both Myanmar and Pakistan offer China links to the Indian Ocean-welcomed for China trade... India however does NOT have land-links/borders with Russia (or former USSR). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashgabat_Agreement or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashgabat_Agreement DJ for decades there has been talks on improving (rail)roads, pipelines etc in South Asia. A.o. the IPI-Iran-Pakistan-India pipeline never became reality because of India-Pakistan tensions... China-India relations had a.o. to deal with a border dispute in the Himalaya...BRICS+/SCO did improve relations somewhat-however (like a.o. Saudi Arabia, Türkiye) India also wanted to have good relations with the US... India-by sea-Iran relations may NOT be that "good"as direct China-Pakistan land links...
